Cooking - Palets bretons

I miss French food, especially "la patisserie francaise". So I decided to cook with the kids and initiate them to some great pastries. Last week, we made some "palets Bretons". My 18 months old loved to play with the flour while my two and half helped me mix the ingredient. Obviously they eat all the biscuits.

Recipes:


  • 2 egg yolks (jaunes d'oeufs)
  • 0.3 lds of sugar (80 g  sucre)
  • 0.3 lds of butter at room temperature (80 g  beurre demi-sel)
  • 0.6 lbs all purpose flour (140 g  farine), plus extra for dusting
  • 1 tps of  baking powder (6 g levure, 1/2 sachet)
  • Vanilla extract (2 sachets de sucre vanillé)


  1. Butter has to be room temperature 
  2. Mix egg and sugar, then add butter, flour, baking powder and vanilla extract.  Mix until batter looks smooth. 
  3. Place dough onto a flowered cutting board and wrap with the plastic. Chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  5. Invite one of the child to roll out dough on a floured work surface to 1/4 to 1/8-inch thick. 
  6. Use a variety of cutters to cut out cookies. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment and space cookies about 1 1/2-inches apart. 
  1. Bake cookies until they are golden brown, about 10 - 15 minutes. Using a using a spatula, transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool. 


  • Sortez le beurre du réfrigérateur à l'avance pour qu'il soit à température ambiante et le travailler en pommade
  • Mélangez les jaunes et le sucre au batteur. Ajoutez le beurre ramolli, puis la farine et la levure. Faites un boudin que vous envelopperez dans un film alimentaire. Laissez reposer au frigo pendant 2 heures. 
  • Réchauffez le four à 170°C (thermostat 5-6). Découpez dans le boudin de pâte vos sablés que vous déposerez dans des moules (à muffins ou à tartelettes). 
Pour ne pas qu'ils s'étalent, il faut absolument cuire les palets dans des moules ou dans des cercles.
  • Enfournez pour 15 minutes environ.

    Montessori House - Program

    Our school is designed to comprehensively address the child’s learning needs the demand of working parents. We provide the following programs:

    Daily activity
    • 7:00 AM - 8:30 AM - Early Arrival / Free Play / Morning Snack Preparation
    • 8:30 AM - 10:45 AM - Morning Work Time (Montessori Education)
    We begin the morning with an uninterrupted work cycle. Snacks are given to children as per the routine established and in consultation with parents
    • 10:45 AM - 11:30 AM - Circle Time / Group Meeting Time (Montessori education)
    We discuss daily topics and enjoy music, poems and stories.
    • 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM - Lunch and Clean Up
    • 12:00 - 1:00 PM - Recess
    We go outside every day for one hour, weather permitting. Activities on foul-weather days include singing, games, rhythm and special lessons with musical instruments.  We try not to let anything but a very rainy/snowy day keep us from enjoying our playground!
    • 1:00  - 1:30 PM - Rest / Nap Period / Afternoon Snack Preparation
    We read books and invite children to rest. Younger children are invited to nap until 3PM.
    • 1:30 - 3:00 PM - Afternoon Work Time
    We begin the afternoon work cycle. Snacks are given to children as per the routine established and in consultation with the parents.
    • 3:00  4:00 PM - Recess
    • 4:00  6:00 PM - Free Play and children dismissal
    During the free play sessions, children are invited to do arts and crafts, sing along in a circle, engaging the group in traditional songs as well as tunes suggested by the children, and participate to free movement classes.

    Montessori House in Natick - its mission

    Montessori House is a home-based bilingual Montessori preschool for children age 18 months through kindergarten in the Natick area (routes 9 and 27).


    Montessori House is a typical Montessori environment carefully prepared to entice the children to learn and explore. The materials are placed on easy to reach open shelves and the children are given the freedom to choose and explore concepts or ideas that are of interest to them. There is a curriculum, routine and structure that contribute to an environment conducive to learning.






    Our mission

    Montessori House promotes bilingual at all ages. We provide a nurturing and a carefully planned, stimulating learning environment which will help the children become bilingual in the early school years, increase their awareness about other languages and cultures.


    Our objectives at Montessori House are for the children:

    • to become bilingual and achieve competency in the foreign language (listening, speaking, reading, writing)
    • to converse in a high level of proficiency in short amount of time and in native accent
    • to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of other cultures
    The focus of this program is to introduce children in French to the five cornerstones of Montessori education namely Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Practical Life and Cultural education.


    About Me

    Born in Sri Lanka, I grew up in Lyon, France since the age of nine. I attended the Lycée Martinière Duchère in Lyon graduating in International Business Management. And since college, I worked and lived in Mumbai, Melbourne, London, Paris and Stockholm, albeit for shorter periods of time.

    In Europe I have a very large extended family, and I'm always surrounded with my younger cousins, nieces and nephews. I spend a great deal of time with them and enjoy helping them with their studies and sharing with them my passion for other cultures and languages.  Spending time with kids is what I enjoy the most so I went on to complete the Montessori primary teacher credential program at Institut Supérieur Maria Montessori in Paris while working for a non- profit organization as a tutor for children aged from 4 to 15 years old. Because they were learning French as a second language and attend a traditional school, they felt left behind and had to do extra work at home. My objective was to teach them that learning can be fun, as well as to respect themselves and others. It offered me the opportunity to work closely with children and to develop my skills as a teacher.

    The next two and half years were spent teaching in a AMI certified Montessori school in the San Diego, CA where I met my husband Steve. Subsequently we moved to Boston MA so that I can pursue a Master in Business Administration at Babson College before starting the French-immersion Montessori pre-school.

    My husband and I have a 15-months old daughter, Malaika. We enjoy exploring the world and sharing with Malaika our passion for other cultures and languages.

    I'm excited about being in a room full of young minds and fresh faces, and being able to play a part in their education and early development. I would love to be a mentor and a guide to children like my teachers were to me.
